Pain, redness as well as swelling in the area are some of the major and common mastitis symptoms. The problem is quite common in breastfeeding women, and it makes you feel lethargic or feverish. Therefore, mastitis treatment is important and possible with home remedies since over-the-counter medications can be harmful to the newborn.
What Are The Mastitis Causes?
Overfeeding and poor hygiene can lead to mastitis symptoms. Microbes namely Staphylococcus aureus are present on the skin which enters into the body through breaks and cuts. While feeding, the areola split and become dry. They then become an entrance for the infection.

Mastitis Treatment
1. Epsom Salt Baths Soothe Mastitis Symptoms.
Epsom salt mixed in bathing water will heal the infection. Add one tablespoon of Epsom salt in one tub of warm water. Soak yourself in the water twice a day.
2. Cabbage Leaf Relieves The Swelling.
Cabbage leaves have been used by breastfeeding mothers. They fight the mastitis infection rapidly. Place cold cabbage leaves inside the bra for a few hours.
3. Raw Garlic Fights Mastitis Infections.
Garlic is an anti-fungal as well as an antibacterial food. Therefore, mince 2-3 garlic cloves and drink them with water in the morning.
4. Evening Primrose Oil Enhances Blood Circulation.
Pain, as well as swelling, are mastitis symptoms. Evening primrose oil will reduce the pain and enhance blood circulation. Take a teaspoon of primrose oil and massage the breasts gently for 15-20 minutes.
5. Hot & Cold Compression Works Great In Mastitis Treatment.
Heat opens the blocked ducts. Apply heat before nursing for 15-30 minutes. After nursing, apply a cold compress for another 15-30 minutes to reduce swelling.

Take one teaspoon of corn silk, uva ursi, and buchu. Boil them in one cup of water. Steep the tea for about 5-8 minutes and strain. Consume twice a day. All these herbs possess antibacterial and antimicrobial properties.

Potatoes are cooling as well as anti-inflammatory. These reduce the swelling as well as redness. Therefore, cut a potato in thin slices. Soak the slices in water for 15 minutes and place them on the breasts. Keep fresh slices after every 20 minutes, and do this for an hour. Repeat after short intervals.
