Pregnancy cravings are pretty normal, due to the hormonal surge that keeps arising during this phase. But, this doesn’t mean that you can indulge in just any kind of foods. Having a balanced diet is absolutely important when it’s about you and your unborn baby. So, these are some of the foods to avoid during pregnancy so that the nine months pass by with absolute ease.
Foods To Avoid During Pregnancy
1. What Not To Eat During Pregnancy? Papaya!
This is one of the most harmful fruits a woman can eat during pregnancy. No matter whether it’s ripe, unripe or semi-ripe, it must be avoided at all costs, especially when you are in the final months of your pregnancy – since it can put you at high risk of a miscarriage.
2. Experts Do Not Recommend Fenugreek Seeds During Pregnancy
Your pregnancy diet must exclude fenugreek seeds as they can trigger unexpected contractions in the uterus to cause a miscarriage. The seeds are harmful enough to also cause a premature delivery or severe allergic reactions.
3. No Caffeine During Pregnancy, Please!
Your pregnancy diet must be free from any caffeinated and carbonated drinks as they can affect your mental processes along with passing the same impact on the fetus. Your body can instantly absorb these and restrict the growth of the unborn child. If you must, limit the intake to just 1 cup a day!
4. Avoid Fish And Seafood During Pregnancy
High mercury fish and seafood are the foods to avoid when pregnant. These include swordfish, shark fish, tuna or king mackerel. Mercury harms your baby’s nervous system. Other sea foods to avoid during pregnancy are oyster, shellfish, mussel, and clam.
5. Shun The Consumption Of Organ Meat
Raw and poorly cooked organ meat is not recommended as it can lead to toxoplasmosis, a parasitic infection that badly affects a baby in the womb. Refrain from eating liver as it contains a high amount of vitamin A that can hinder the baby’s growth.
6. Limit Sugar-Rich Edibles During Pregnancy
Desserts and chocolates do relieve your sweet cravings, but such sugar-rich foods aren’t recommended when you are pregnant. They can actually increase the related discomforts and cause constipation, vomiting, heartburn, weight gain, preterm labor or metabolic syndrome in the unborn. You can instead choose healthier options like dates, grapefruit or apricots.
7. Which Foods To Avoid During Pregnancy? Unpasteurized Cheese And Milk!
The two can contain harmful bacteria to critically damage your immunity and lead to life-threatening consequences. It can either be naturally occurring or be collected due to contamination. Both unpasteurized cheese and milk have a risk of getting you into severe labor or miscarriage. So, avoid the two at all costs! If at all you need to have milk, boil it at the required temperature and eliminate the potential risk.
