Our topic today is high cholesterol foods. Supermarkets today are stacked with foods that contain all sorts of ingredients that are bad for the heart. Many of them increase LDL (bad cholesterol) levels, putting the cardiovascular system at danger. But with the right information, you can steer clear of these foods and protect your precious heart from the damage they cause.
8 Kinds Of Foods To Avoid For Cholesterol Patients
1. Deep Fried Foods Are Dangerous.
If you are facing high cholesterol issues, then deep fried foods are something you should stay far away from. Some amount of fat is healthy but when foods are deep fried, they absorb a lot of trans fat which boosts LDL levels. French fries, crispies, and cutlets are some examples.
2. Avoid Sugary Foods & Baked Goodies
Processed baked cakes, pastries, pies, buns, muffins, ice creams and other sugary desserts have a lot of refined sugar and flour – these refined ingredients are what makes them so unhealthy. Processed baked foods contain tons of other artificial ingredients that can worsen the condition. They can make you feel good but are foods to avoid for cholesterol.
3. Packaged & Frozen Foods Are Tamasik.
Foods that are packaged like chips, cold cuts, and pickled food contain a lot of preservatives for a longer shelf life. But they are basically stale and are considered ‘tamasik‘ in Ayurveda. Moreover, many of them are also fried in trans fat, which is double trouble. Don’t go near them! They are all high cholesterol foods.
4. Carbonated Drinks Damage The Body.
Some other cholesterol foods to avoid are sodas, artificial fruit juices, and canned juices. These are artificially flavoured with loads of sugar and what do you get? Loads of calories! And the fizz is all gas. Plus they can stain your teeth too.
5. Processed Dairy Is A No-No.
Foods like cheese and dairy products made from reduced fat milk are tasty indeed, but they do a lot of harm to the heart. They don’t digest easily and then frequent portions can start building up, leading to high cholesterol.
6. Say No To Hydrogenated Vegetable Oils.
When oils are hydrogenated, their trans fats levels increase. And trans fat is not at all healthy. Oils like canola, corn, and soy oil contain trans fats. Do not use them as a medium for cooking. Such foods are foods to avoid for cholesterol affected people. Try these healthy cooking oils instead.
7. Cut Down On Refined Carbs.
Who does not enjoy sandwiches, buns, and doughnuts? But they are made of refined grains. This will raise your cholesterol levels as well as weight. So try baking them at home with whole grain flours and natural sweeteners.
8. Avoid Alcohol. Always!
Ayurveda will always advise you to keep away from alcohol. It will imbalance all your doshas and give you all kinds of physical, mental, and emotional problems. A couple of rum chocolates on Christmas won’t hurt, but don’t fall into regular drinking.
Now that you are aware about the high cholesterol foods to avoid, you can enjoy a longer life with a healthy heart!
