According to the ancient Indian scriptures, Baheda a.k.a. Vibheetaki (botanical name Terminalia Bellirica) means something that keeps away diseases. The fruit is true to its name. It has a bitter-astringent taste and is light on digestion. It is stimulating, an analgesic, expectorant along with being a brain tonic. It’s of a hot potency and is Vata as well as Pitta pacifying.
Health Benefits Of Baheda (Bibhitaki)
1. Relieves Constipation
Having a laxative effect, this fruit helps relieve constipation. It’s packed with dietary fibers to lubricate the gastrointestinal tract. Grind 1-2 baheda cloves and mix it in a tsp of honey. Have this mix three to fours times in a day to alleviate the symptoms of an irritated bowel, cramps, acidity, gas, constipation and more.
2. Promotes Hair Growth
The best way to protect your hair from any damage is to rinse them regularly with baheda water. Baheda oil will also come in handy. This will prevent grey hair, control hair fall, treat dandruff and leave your hair feeling well-nourished, silky and smooth.
3. Aids Weight Loss
Since baheda (bibhitaki) is hot in nature, it helps shrink the stubborn and accumulated fat. Being light on digestion also makes it great for fastening your metabolism. Therefore, baheda churna can naturally aid the process. So, take around 6g baheda powder with water after meals to regulate your appetite as well as digestion.
4. Great For Skin
Bibhitaki is an antibacterial agent which is also loaded with Vitamin C as well as the essential antioxidants. To get rid of ulcers, acne, rashes or other skin inflammations, apply a paste of baheda (Terminalia Bellirica) powder mixed in warm water. This will not get rid of the problem but also the scars. Besides this, bibhitaki also helps improve your skin texture, all thanks to its blood purifying properties.
5. Treats Respiratory Problems
Terminalia Bellirica (bibhitaki) is an esteemed herb used since ancient times. It clears the respiratory passage to get rid of cold, cough, bronchial spasm, mucus, asthma and other bacterial as well as viral infections. So, take these in equal amounts – baheda, licorice, and long pepper. Grind finely and boil 2 tsp of the powder in half a liter water. Reduce it to about 300 ml and drink the decoction twice daily in divided doses.
