What is Ayurveda?
Life (Ayu) is the combination (samyoga) of body, senses, mind and reincarnating soul. Ayurveda is the most sacred science of life, beneficial to humans both in this world and the world beyond.
[CHARAKA, SAMHITA, SUTRASTHANA, 1.42 – 34]
Ayurveda is far more than just the healing system for the body as most tend to view it, it looks not at the body alone but also at the mind and soul. The literal meaning of Ayur-veda is “the wisdom of life,” It is an ancient vedic science that originates from India. It is a science of longevity: a consciousness based approach to health and spiritual medicine which recognizes phenomenal intelligence in every seed, all life and each living thing.
Health and disease, according to ayurveda, is the result of how we connect with the universe vis-a-vis our thoughts, beliefs, perceptions and feelings which eventually drive our actions. When our actions are in harmony with our nature it leads to health, disharmony causes imbalance resulting in diseases.
Ayurveda introduces us to our true nature and helps us live a blissful and balanced life in accordance with the laws of nature. It beautifully explains the fact that we are all same as an extension of this vast nature and universe yet at the same time, we are unique within the composition of our physical, mental and emotional being. In short, it introduces us to our INNER SELF.
Adopting an ayurvedic lifestyle is the ultimate way to enjoy this beautiful gift of life.
