We humans have been drinking cow milk for thousands of years. In fact, wealthy ancients even bathed in it! This delicious drink is packed with nutrients that benefit both children and adults. According to Ayurveda, cow milk is a wonder food. Here are some medicinal uses of cow milk…
Medicinal Uses of Cow Milk
1. It Strengthens the Immune System.
In Ayurveda, ojas is a vital essence that is responsible for strong immunity. When ojas is weak, health declines on all levels. Cow milk is a ‘rasayana’ or rejuvenative that deeply nourishes the body’s tissues and strengthens your ojas. It has loads of antioxidants like vitamin E, which helps fight the damaging effects of free radicals. If your child needs an immunity boost, increase the amounts of cow milk in your diet, and your body’s strength and immunity should improve.
2. It Improves the Heart.
The benefits of cow milk for the heart come from its Omega-3 fatty acid content. In good varieties of cow milk, you can get a healthy supply of these fatty acids in order to have a healthy heart. It helps reduce excess fat in your blood, lowers the risk of irregular heartbeat, slows the build-up of plaque in arteries and prevents cardiovascular illnesses.
3. It can Prevent Type 2 Diabetes.
Did you know that there are medicinal uses of cow milk for type 2 diabetes? Cow milk can help keep a check on diabetes because it has the minerals your body requires to lower its blood sugar levels. Studies say that including cow milk in your diet is a helpful way to prevent the onset of diabetes.
4. It Helps Reduce Weight.
Although it has quite a lot of fat content, cow milk can actually help you lose weight naturally. It helps you easily feel full and satisfied. It has loads of good quality protein while being low on calories. Moreover, milk is good for boosting metabolism – which is a great way to help cut down on the kilos. So drink cow milk more often to not only look better but keep the host of illnesses related to excess weight at bay.
5. It Pacifies Vata and Pitta.
Cow milk is sweet, heavy, unctuous, lubricating, calming, cooling and smooth. These properties make it an excellent pacifier of Vata and Pitta doshas – whether you have either one dosha or a combination of the two. Drink warm cow milk every day, and this should bring about a balance of the doshas, ultimately taking care of any other health problems arising out of this imbalance. Cow ghee benefits Vata and Pitta types in the same way. For those who have excess Kapha however, cow milk is best in small quantities.
6. It Boosts Bone Health.
Our list of medicinal uses of cow milk ends with this popular benefit. Cow milk is not, in fact, the richest source of calcium, but the human body absorbs calcium from it rather well. We all know that calcium is crucial for bones and teeth, and that healthy levels of calcium in the body prevent the onset of illnesses like osteoporosis at later ages. Cow milk also contains vitamin K1, another vital nutrient that binds calcium to your bones.
As you see, cow milk is indeed a precious food. To get the best of it, buy milk produced by well-kept, healthy and happy cows!
