Your beauty regime doesn’t have to be expensive, painful or elaborate. Just blend some lemon juice with a tad bit of water and voila! You’ve got yourself a lovely tonic for gorgeous skin and hair. In Ayurveda, lemon juice is used as a beautifier – owing to the fact that lemons are packed with essential nutrients. They have especially high amounts of vitamin C, an antioxidant that does wonders for your skin. Moreover, they are quite acidic, which makes them potent little fruits. Here are some ways to use lemon juice on your face.
Effective Ways to Use Lemon Juice on Your Face
1. For Acne and Blackheads
Lemon juice is quite effective in tackling acne as well as blackheads, since lemons are anti fungal and antibacterial. Squeeze some juice out of a lemon, add little water, and dip a clean q-tip in it. Then, apply the lemon juice on your skin. This is a delightfully potent remedy. Remember to rinse it off after 5 minutes with clean cold water.
Note: A bit of stinging is common, but if it’s too much and your pimple bleeds, then try another milder remedy. If you have very sensitive skin, you could try some of these Skin Care for Kids: 10 Essential Tips
2. For Lightening Blemishes
What’s worse about acne? The scars it leaves behind! Lemons have lots of citric acid which works wonderfully to lighten blemishes and dark spots that remain after acne. Apply some lemon juice (diluted with water) on the spots and you’ll see a considerable difference. Try starting the treatment as soon as the spot appears.
3. For Dandruff
Lemon juice is a powerful and easy home remedy for dandruff and dry scalp. All you have to do is squeeze out some lemon juice, add little water, and massage it onto your scalp. After around 10 minutes, wash it off with mild shampoo. Do this every few days, and you’ll see visible effects in less than 2 weeks.
4. For Oily Skin
While lemon juice treats scalp driness, a lemon face wash reduces skin oiliness. Simply collect some lemon juice, in a tiny container, add a bit of water, and apply it on your face with a clean q-tip. Do this every night before you sleep, and rinse your face the next morning.
5. For Chapped Lips
Chapped lips can get pretty painful if you don’t act on time! Do this before you go to bed: apply some lemon juice (mixed with a few drops of water) on your dry lips and wash it off the following morning. This has an exfoliating effect, which leaves your lips smooth and soft. However, don’t do this if your lips have already begin to cut – it will make matters worse.
6. For Cleansing Skin
A lemon face scrub is all you need to cleanse your face while being safe from side effects of chemical ingredients. Mix some lemon juice with water. Apply it on your face and scrub the skin. This will get rid of all the impurities, as well as moisturise your skin. It’s an easy-to-prepare facial cleanse. The fresher the fruit, the more thorough the cleanse.
7. To Lighten Hair
Did you know that lemon juice makes for a fantastic hair lightening potion? Get pretty highlights just by applying the juice on your locks before heading out in the Sun. It’s natural, inexpensive and delightfully effective!
8. For Skin Brightening
If your skin has begun to look dull, just put some some water-diluted lemon juice on your face. The high levels on vitamin C and citric acid will bring back your skin’s brightness in a short span of time. But remember to not go out in the Sun with lemon juice on your face since it will harm your skin.
Things to Remember…
Lemon juice is a strong substance, and so you must be careful about how, when and where you use it.
Always:
- Lemon juice is pretty acidic, so always dilute it with water before putting lemon on your skin.
- Use lemon juice on your face as a temporary treatment – not as part of your daily regimen.
- Keep track of the time. You should keep lemon juice on your face for up to 5 minutes only.
- Use your lemon juice remedy in the night.
- Squeeze the juice out of fresh lemons. Don’t buy juice from stores since it’s most likely too concentrated, not fresh, and not in its pure form.
Never:
- Never put it over cuts!
- Don’t step out in the Sun with lemon juice on your skin. If you must, then wear good quality SPF protection.
