Ayurveda recognizes your everyday diet – Aahara and lifestyle – Vihara as an essential prerequisite for possessing natural health & balanced living. The right diet assures you longevity with complete strength and absolute well-being.
Role of Aahara or Food
Food, if taken in the right manner, stimulates the Agni or the gastric fire and if not, the body becomes incapable of deriving the nutritional benefits from that food. Also, the toxicity or the Ama of the undigested food (due to the incorrect manner of food intake) further results in several critical illnesses. Thus, poor digestive fire is considered to be the main reason behind the formation of toxins.
Through right diet, you can boost digestion & reduce the toxin accumulation in the body. A sound digestion renders support to the detox process along with an enhanced immunity.
Importance of Vihara
Other than food, stress – primarily a lifestyle related factor, also leads to an increase of toxins or Ama in our body. These toxins can get dissolved by addressing the root cause and taking correct measures to alter the diet and/or the lifestyle. If these toxins are left in the body for a longer time, they get more reactive and tend to move from the digestive tract and spread to other body parts causing life-damaging diseases.
Enhancing Diet and Lifestyle for Healthy Living
The first step is to fix your food intake routine and follow a healthy diet regime.
And the next is to overcome your stress levels. Adopt appropriate lifestyle modifications including yoga, meditation, and stress management and breathing techniques.
Fasting: strengthening digestive fire
An effective way to strengthen your digestive fire & remove the accumulated toxins from the body is “Fasting”. However, we do not recommend long term fasting. Preferably, make it more periodic like fasting on particular days of the week or month. And fasting doesn’t mean refraining from food & water but consuming light foods like khichdi, fruits, vegetables or juices. Certain types of Ayurvedic fasting involves staying on water, herbal teas or liquid diets.
Note: An appropriate kind of fasting should be as suggested by an Ayurvedic physician or Vaidya after examining your toxin levels & digestive strength.
Cleansing & Detoxification
When your digestive system needs enhancement, you might have to undergo a thorough cleansing & detoxification process that’s generally possible through Ayurvedic Panchkarma procedures. Once the toxic matter has been fully removed from the body, internal herbal medicines are given to keep the Agni (digestion gastric fire) invigorated.
