Are muscle aches making your life hell? The most common causes of muscle pain are lack of sleep, overexertion, stress, and minor injuries. Underlying diseases and nutrient deficiencies can also cause it, in case of which you must seek a doctor’s help.
Ayurveda recognises some more causes: build up of toxins (ama), Vata aggravation, poor digestion, and a tamasic lifestyle. Mild to moderate muscle aches are usually treatable with ease at home, with Ayurvedic remedies. Here are the best natural ingredients for muscle pain relief.
Muscle Pain Relief Remedies
1. Abhyanga Massage Gets Rid Of Muscle Pain.
One of the best forms of muscle pain treatment offered in Ayurveda is abhyanga, a powerful therapeutic massage. Abhyanga uses medicinal oils for muscle pain relief, such as that of sesame, mustard, lavender, and coconut. You can either do this at an Ayurvedic clinic, or have a friend or family member do it for you. In fact, you can even do it yourself! It’s best to first apply warmth on your body to relax your muscles and then follow it with a massage.
2. Mustard Oil And Garlic: An Excellent Medicine For Muscle Pain.
Next up, mustard oil and garlic work as a powerful muscle pain remedy. They increase blood flow to the aching area and support quick healing. Here’s what to do: chop 8-10 garlic cloves and add them to 4-5 tablespoons of warm mustard oil. Let it cool, strain the liquid and massage it onto your skin a few times daily.
3. Drink Loads Of Water For Pain Relief.
Did you know that dehydration causes body ache? If you drink way lesser water than the recommended amounts (minimum 2 litres), chances are that your muscles simply need some water! So, hydrate your body well. Drink warm water as well as herbal teas. This is especially important during summers.
4. Soothe Your Muscles With Ice Packs.
Ice packs are a classic muscle pain treatment that rarely fails to provide relief. Simply hold an ice pack onto your aching muscles for up to 20 minutes, a few times per day. If you have swelling in your muscles, this will be immensely helpful in reducing it. Ice packs prove effective in numbing the pain, which is quite helpful in cases of injury where muscle aches can be rather severe.
5. Bathe With Epsom Salts For Quicker Healing.
Epsom salts contain loads of magnesium sulfate, which provides lots of muscle pain relief while promoting healing. The warmth of the water will reduce the muscle stiffness. These salts relax not just your muscles, but also the mind – thus helping promoting a feeling of wellness. Just add 1-2 cups of Epsom salt to a warm bath and relax in it for about 20-30 minutes. Do this a few times a week.
6. For Smooth Recovery, Go To Sleep!
Don’t forget to get plenty of sleep in order to heal smoothly and quickly. When you sleep, your body is at work, repairing all the damages caused during the day. So get 8 hours of sleep. Moreover, sleep around 10 pm and wake up before 6 am – this will ensure that all your body’s healing mechanisms work efficiently and in harmony. This is a vital muscle pain treatment.
