Hives on the skin, also called urticaria, is an inflammatory disorder that leads to the development of red rashes along with uncontrollable itching. It can also cause small-sized bumps or long patches. What causes hives? Histamine is responsible for this kind of an allergic reaction. And, what is an effective hives treatment? Ayurveda has the perfect solution!
What Do Hives Look Like?
Hives on the skin are easy to identify. They can be round, ringed or patchy red rashes along with similar inflammations. The outbreak can quickly spread from one part of the body to the other. It is more commonly found on the hands as well as legs.
What Causes Hives?
In Ayurveda, the condition of hives or urticaria is known as sheet pitta. When a person comes in contact with cold air, the Kapha (water) as well as vata (air) dosha tend to increase. It also vitiates pitta (fire) in the body and spreads in the blood vessels causing sthaan shariya (relocation). This process ultimately leads to sheet pitta.
Urticaria can also be an allergic reaction in response to the environment. Factors that may trigger hives are dust, wind, pollen, insect bites, hot or cold climates, certain foods and chemicals, virus or bacteria, sun exposure, and scratching.

Hives Treatment
1. Turmeric Is A Wonderful Treatment.
Being an antihistamine and loaded with antioxidants, turmeric helps reduce itching and restricts the formation of any bacterial infections. It’s also anti-inflammatory in nature. So, you can mix a tbsp of turmeric powder in a glass of milk or water and drink it thrice daily. It is advised not to follow this remedy if you’re on any blood thinning medications.
2. Massage With Mustard Oil.
Since mustard oil is a potent antibacterial, it kills the virus that causes hives. Therefore, massaging the affected areas with some mustard oil moisturizes your skin as well as reduce the inflammation.
3. Cornstarch Alleviates The Hives Symptoms.
This remedy soothes your skin and leaves it feeling soft. Therefore, in 2 cups of oatmeal, add 3 tsp of cornstarch powder with some water. Apply the paste on to the rashes till the symptoms subside. This will not only act as a useful skin scrub but also be a great moisturizing agent.
4. Try Neem For Hives Treatment.
Take some neem leaves and wash them thoroughly. Grind these into a fine paste and apply it over the affected areas. Since neem is antibacterial in nature, it will reduce the discomforts caused by hives on the skin.
5. Use Green Tea For Hives On The Skin.
Since green tea is a caffeine-free herbal drink, it is extremely beneficial for hives on the skin. The antioxidant content in green tea aids quick removal of the damaged skin cells. So, boil one cup of water and add a tsp green tea leaves. Let it heat for about two minutes and drink this twice daily to soothe the hives symptoms.
